凡夫 [py] fan2fu1 [wg] fan-fu [ko] pômbu [ja] ボンブ bonbu ||| (1) A fool, an ignorant person. An unenlightened person; someone who has no grasp of the Buddhist doctrine (Skt. baala, Pali baala). Often translated into English as "worldling."(2) Xuangzang used this term as a translation for p.rthag-jana, an alternative for 異生, referring to an ordinary unenlightened person who has not yet grasped the significance of the Four Noble Truths. In the Hiinayaana tradition, the 'first fruit' 初果 and above is considered as sage, in Mahaayaana the first of the ten bhuumis and above is considered as sage.
